June 25, 2020; 3:00 pm – 4:00 pm EDT
This is a virtual event.
On June 25, 2020, County Health Rankings & Roadmaps will host a webinar, which is “part of County Health Rankings & Roadmaps’ special topic series, Health Equity and Social Solidarity in the Time of Pandemic: Strategies for COVID-19 Response and Recovery.” Per County Health Rankings & Roadmaps:
We know that before this pandemic arrived, not everyone had the same opportunity to live a long and healthy life. The COVID-19 crisis has clearly demonstrated these realities, as communities of color are experiencing a disproportionately high number of confirmed coronavirus cases and rate of death from the virus.
During this webinar, we will explore how COVID-19 is exposing existing disparities experienced by Black communities, the historical context, institutional and systemic racism, and how communities can begin to address these disparities now and during recovery with policy, systems, and environmental change.
The following guests will be featured:
• Dr. Camara Jones, MD, PhD
Dr. Jones is a family physician and epidemiologist, a senior fellow and associate professor at Morehouse School of Medicine, and past president of the American Public Health Association.
• Ms. Cassandra Welchlin
Ms. Welchlin is the Lead Organizer and Co-Convener of the Mississippi Black Women’s Roundtable and co-founder of the Mississippi Women’s Economic Security Initiative.
• Delegate Jheanelle Wilkins
Delegate Wilkins is a member of the Maryland House of Delegates, representing Montgomery County, MD, and Director of State and Local Government Affairs at The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights.
There will be “an interactive virtual discussion immediately following the webinar.” The organization encourages “you to participate in an engaging dialogue with peers across the country to share your experiences navigating the pandemic and your thoughts on how the strategies shared during the webinar may work in your community.”
